This Sunday is Mother’s Day, and we just wanted to take the time to thank our “Mom” Insiders for all they do for their families, their readers, and for us! You truly are incredible women and the best examples of perseverance and poise! In celebration of Mother’s Day – we’d like to take a moment to reflect on our latest Insiders event.
Inventor, mother, and business woman Joy Mangano is a force to be reckoned with – or better yet, a Mompreneur to be reckoned with! On April 18th, we partnered with Insider (and Mompreneur) Rachel Pitzel of Club MomMe to put together a wonderful event and invited our SoCal Insiders to a Mompreneur screening and panel to watch and discuss the inspiring story of JOY.
Beginning at the ArcLight Theater and moving to the historic Culver Hotel in Culver City, CA, our Insiders were given the special opportunity to listen in on a panel of innovative and inspiring women including Catherine McCord (founder, Weelicious), DeNai Jones (founder, Petunia Picklebottom), Andrea Williams (founder, Tubby Todd), and Melissa Kieling (founder, PackIt). All four women discussed the ways they’ve balanced motherhood with entrepreneurship and shared the lessons they learned along the way.
Andrea Williams: “At the end of the day, you only have so much energy to go around and your little ones need a lot of attention so it comes down to “What are we going to cut” so that we have enough bandwidth to cover all of the emotional and physical needs as a family.”
Catherine McCord: “Whatever your passion is – what sets your product apart – is what makes it unique and special.”
DeNai Jones: “You learn to compartmentalize and maximize your time as a mom. Women in general multitask really well. I think you have to find a balance like, “this is my time for my kids. The other things can wait.”
Melissa Kieling: “Understanding that it is a marathon and not a sprint”
